Mpact Operations is offering a Training Opportunity for an Engineer-in-Training (Mechanical) at its Mkhondo Mill, based in the Engineering Department.

This is a chance for a driven mechanical engineering graduate to gain hands-on exposure within one of South Africa’s leading paper and packaging operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Engineering Department, contributing to capital projects, root cause failure analysis, and the ongoing improvement of maintenance and engineering processes across the mill.

Qualifications & Job Requirements:

  • BSc or BEng in Mechanical Engineering
  • Self-driven and self-motivated
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide mechanical engineering input to the Engineering Department
  • Take active control of projects and modifications
  • Assist in Health & Safety, Environmental, and other legal compliance matters
  • Contribute to capital projects
  • Provide input into root cause failure analysis to develop and implement improvements to maintenance and engineering
  • Investigate and implement solutions to engineering problems
  • Keep up with administration tasks to ensure excellent project control
  • Work with employees and contractors to achieve project and departmental goals

This role offers structured exposure to real capital projects and engineering problem-solving in a live mill environment — ideal for a graduate looking to build a strong foundation in mechanical engineering practice.

Job Advert 2: Technician in Training – FTC (Electrical & Instrumentation)

Mpact Paper is inviting applications for a Technician in Training position at its Mkhondo Mill, within the Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering Department.

Mpact Operations (Pty) Ltd, a leading paper and packaging business committed to sustainable practices and employee development, is running a 12-month Technician Development Programme aimed at preparing graduates for technical roles within the business. The programme offers structured workplace exposure, mentoring, and on-the-job training under qualified technicians and artisans.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • S4 in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering discipline
  • Eligible to apply for a National Diploma through a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programme
  • No prior full-time permanent employment in a similar technical role
  • South African citizen
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and work in a team environment
  • Self-driven and self-motivated

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the Technician Development Programme over the specified training period
  • Assist qualified technicians and artisans with daily tasks, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities
  • Gain hands-on experience with machinery, systems, and equipment used in the operation
  • Complete assigned technical projects, assessments, and practical learning tasks
  • Adhere to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
