The Department of Employment and Labour seeks two OHS Inspectors (Rustenburg & Mogwase, North West) earning R413,001/year. The Department of Employment and Labour, North West Province, is inviting applications for two Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Inspector posts based at the Rustenburg and Mogwase Labour Centres. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified professionals to contribute to workplace safety compliance and enforcement across South Africa.

Position Details

Salary: R413 001 per annum

  • Labour Centre: Rustenburg, North West (Ref: HR 4/4/06/04) – 1 Post
  • Labour Centre: Mogwase, North West (Ref: HR 4/4/06/05) – 1 Post

Requirements

Applicants must hold a 3-year tertiary qualification in one of the following fields: Environmental Health, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Construction, Biology, Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, or Biochemistry. A valid driver’s licence is essential, along with two years’ functional experience in the inspection and enforcement of labour legislation or a related environment.

Candidates should have sound knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (as amended), its 21 Regulations, South African National Standards, the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, and the Unemployment Insurance Act. Strong planning, communication, computer literacy, facilitation, interpersonal, conflict handling, negotiation, problem-solving, interviewing, presentation, innovation, and analytical skills are required.

Key Duties

Successful candidates will independently plan and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations. Responsibilities include confirming registration under the Unemployment Insurance Act and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, investigating and finalising incidents and complaints, and enforcing legislation where necessary, including appearing in court as a state witness.

The role also involves conducting proactive inspections according to schedule, compiling inspection reports, running advocacy campaigns on labour legislation, and contributing to regional inspection planning and statistical reporting.
