Technician Chemical X2 – Eskom (Germiston)

Eskom is hiring a Technician Chemical (X2) in Germiston, RT&D division. Requires a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry/Chemical Engineering (NQF6) plus P1/P2 practical training. Permanent, T11 grade, various locations available. Closing date: 24 July 2026.


Eskom is looking for a Technician Chemical to join its Research, Testing & Development (RT&D) division, working across the STSER department at locations including Johannesburg, Polokwane, Witbank, Port Elizabeth, Klerksdorp, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, and Pietermaritzburg. This is a permanent, T11 grade position and an excellent opportunity for chemistry graduates looking to build a career in one of South Africa’s leading energy utilities.

About the Role

The successful candidate will apply knowledge of chemistry, instrumentation, and statistics to solve problems in chemical sciences and assist engineers in diagnosing faults related to plant applications. This role sits within Eskom’s laboratory function and plays a key part in maintaining quality, safety, and operational reliability across the utility’s plant infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise workflow, and perform chemical analysis
  • Contribute to safety, health, and quality standards in the laboratory
  • Contribute to the cost effectiveness of laboratory operations
  • Assist the laboratory supervisor with day-to-day duties

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering at NQF Level 6 with 240 credits
  • Completion of Practical Training P1 and P2
  • Relevant laboratory experience

Knowledge Areas

Candidates should be familiar with basic laboratory management, ISO 17025 quality standards, ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety), ISO 14001 (Environment), Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), relevant industry standards and legislation, general laboratory practices, the South African Institute of Technology (SAIT) transformer course, Eskom policies and procedures, and analytical chemistry principles.
