TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa (Pty) Ltd is offering a structured Apprenticeship opportunity for an Instrument Mechanician at its Lubricants Manufacturing Plant (LMP) in Durban. This is a permanent contract position designed to equip motivated young South Africans with the hands-on technical skills and theoretical knowledge required to build a sustainable career in the engineering and maintenance sector.
About the Opportunity
The successful apprentice will be based at the TotalEnergies Lubricants Manufacturing Plant in Durban (Wharfside and Causeway Road), where they will be integrated into the plant’s maintenance team. The programme combines structured practical workplace experience with formal theoretical training, giving apprentices a comprehensive grounding in instrument mechanician work within a world-class energy and lubricants manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
As an apprentice at the LMP, the successful candidate will:
- Work alongside the existing maintenance team, carrying out daily duties that directly support learning objectives and contribute to overall plant availability and operational efficiency.
- Attend all required theoretical training sessions and practical learning activities as prescribed by the appointed training provider.
- Complete all occupationally related tasks specified in the apprenticeship programme, supporting both theoretical and practical workplace experience components.
- Accurately maintain timesheets, project documentation, logbooks, and all other apprenticeship-related records, and participate fully in formative and summative assessments.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times and comply strictly with all Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality (HSSEQ) requirements applicable at the LMP.
- Read, understand, and apply all relevant work method statements, permits, and risk assessments before executing any task.
- Comply with all TotalEnergies policies, procedures, site rules, and the Management of Work (MoW) procedure.
- Maintain equipment and work areas to the required standards in support of production efficiency and quality targets.
- Escalate any safety incidents, hazards, or unsafe conditions to a Supervisor or Engineer immediately upon identification.
- Be available to work overtime, weekends, and standby shifts when operationally required.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science.
- N3, N4, N5, or N6 qualification from a recognised South African College in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- Must be physically fit and able to meet the physical demands of the role.
- Must be willing and able to work at heights (e.g., on top of tanks and platforms).
- Must be willing and able to work in confined spaces (e.g., inside tanks and vessels).
