Are you a technically minded young person with a passion for how things work? Do you enjoy getting hands-on with mechanical systems and thrive in fast-paced, high-performance environments? Premier FMCG is offering an exciting Apprenticeship Millwright opportunity at their Bakery site in Cape Town — and this could be the launchpad your career has been waiting for.
About the Programme
This is a structured 3-year apprenticeship programme designed to develop the next generation of skilled Millwrights within Premier’s Technical Bakery division. The programme combines formal theoretical learning at an accredited institution with intensive on-the-job practical training, giving you a well-rounded foundation that prepares you for a long and rewarding career as a qualified Artisan.
During the practical phases of the programme, you will work directly under the guidance and mentorship of experienced, qualified Artisans. This hands-on exposure allows you to convert theoretical knowledge into real-world application — building your confidence and competence with every shift. Be prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as part of your development journey.
What You Will Be Doing
As an Apprentice Millwright, your training will equip you with the skills to maintain, repair, and optimise mechanical and electrical systems within a busy bakery production environment. You will learn to diagnose faults, apply engineering principles, interpret technical drawings, and contribute meaningfully to keeping production operations running at peak performance. This is not a passive learning experience — Premier expects its apprentices to show up with energy, initiative, and a genuine hunger to grow.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this programme, you must hold a minimum of N2 qualification with four relevant subjects, including Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Mechanical, and Mechanical & Electrical Drawings. An Electrical subject is advantageous. Candidates who hold an N3 qualification and/or Matric will have a distinct advantage, as will those who bring some prior relevant work experience to the table.
Who Should Apply
Premier is looking for candidates who are naturally curious and technically inclined — people who enjoy working with their hands and have strong analytical and logical thinking abilities. You should be a team player who can hold your own in a pressurised environment, with sharp attention to detail and solid problem-solving skills. Good hand-eye coordination and a proactive, solution-driven attitude are essential.
Working Conditions
This role requires availability for a 6-day working week, including overtime as required. You must also be prepared to meet the pass rates for all theoretical training modules as specified by management. This is a commitment — and Premier rewards that commitment with world-class training and real career prospects.
How to Apply
If you are ready to invest in your future and build a career with one of South Africa’s leading FMCG companies, do not miss this opportunity.
