If you are driven by sustainable development and eager to grow within a globally respected organisation, NIRAS South Africa wants to hear from you.

About NIRAS

NIRAS is a global consulting and engineering company with over 60 years of experience delivering technical solutions across health, infrastructure, agribusiness, rural development, and water. With 7,000 ongoing projects worldwide and a workforce that spans continents, NIRAS brings world-class expertise to local challenges. In South Africa, NIRAS works closely with multinational companies in the food and beverage manufacturing sector across the African continent, delivering projects that demand precision, safety, and technical excellence.

The Opportunity

This is a contract-based Graduate Engineer position based at NIRAS’s Pretoria office. It is an opportunity to step into a hands-on technical role from day one, working alongside experienced engineers on real projects with real impact.

As a Graduate Engineer, you will be embedded within the food and beverage manufacturing environment, where your focus will centre on machine and process safety as well as on-site technical tasks. You will not be sitting on the sidelines. You will be contributing directly to engineering solutions that keep operations running safely and efficiently across some of Africa’s most significant manufacturing facilities.

This role offers the kind of early-career exposure that is difficult to find — working within a global company, gaining experience across multiple technical disciplines, and developing professionally under the guidance of seasoned colleagues who are invested in your growth.

What You Will Be Doing

You will support the planning and execution of engineering projects within food and beverage manufacturing, with particular emphasis on machine and process safety. Your day-to-day will involve on-site technical work, project administration, and close collaboration with both internal teams and client stakeholders. You will apply your engineering fundamentals to real operational challenges, contribute to technical documentation, and support project delivery within tight schedules.

What NIRAS Is Looking For

To be considered for this role, you should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering, with a solid grounding in medium to low voltage systems. Beyond your technical qualification, NIRAS is looking for someone who brings strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.

You should be comfortable working under pressure and meeting deadlines without compromising quality. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to manage your own workload with discipline and structure. Experience with project management tools will be an advantage, though not a requirement.

Above all, NIRAS values engineers who are curious, motivated, and ready to learn — people who approach challenges with initiative and take pride in doing things properly.
