About the Programme

The BPO Internship Programme is a structured 12-month workplace experience initiative designed to bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice. The programme offers participants the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world port environment, gain industry-specific skills, and develop the professional competencies required to build a successful career in the maritime and shipping sector.

The 2026/2027 intake will be hosted across BPO’s regional operations and will offer placements in the following disciplines:

  • Human Resources (HR)
  • Finance
  • Safety
  • Mechanical Engineering

Who Should Apply?

BPO is seeking applications from South African unemployed youth who meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizen
  • Between the ages of 18 and 30 years
  • Currently unemployed
  • In possession of, or currently completing, a relevant qualification in one of the disciplines listed above
  • Eager to gain practical workplace experience in the port and logistics sector

Important Note

This internship is offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract. Participants should note that the programme is designed purely for skills development and workplace readiness purposes. There is no guarantee of permanent employment upon completion of the programme, and no such expectation should be held.
